La Lechuza hails from Mexican and Texano folklore, with her tales and reported sightings being found in the areas around Mexico, California, and Texas. La Lechuza means owl in Spanish, but this particular creature refers to a witch with the ability to shapeshift into a large, terrifying white owl with a womans face. As a bird, she swoops down to attack her victims, clawing her prey's eyes out with her powerful talons. She commonly preys on inebriated people- so drunkards beware.
La Lechuza does not always simply chase down her prey- on occasions, she lures her victims to her. Able to produce a cry that sounds like that of a babies, she is able to draw out those who would worry for the safety of an infant lost in the dark.
With some tellings, the witch who would become La Lechuza was a practioner of white magic, murdered by townsfolk who thought she was in league with the devil. She then returned from the dead as a vengeful spirit, seeking to terrorize the living as revenge against those who had wronged her.
