Classes At SSSfGU

These are the classes that students will be able to sign up for, and the positions that professors may apply for. Classes will be hosted at minimum once a week for an hour, with each professor creating weekly homework for the class! Some classes may end up with more than one class a week.

Students are able to sign up for classes, and mark as UA (Unavailable). Students who sign up as UA don't have to come to class (like time zone conflicts) but will still be graded for the homework.

Astronomy

The study of the stars, the planets, and all celestial bodies within the night sky. This is the history of the constellations, how astrology and astronomy came to exist, and how Luna chose the organization of the sky. The stars, the moon, and all manner of the heavens have influence on the magic of Equestria, and this class is dedicated to its study. Students can have the opportunities have a chance to look for new stars, interact with moon rocks and meteorites.

Care for Magical Creatures

Pretty self explanatory. This job is tending to the health and general wellbeing of all the magical creatures that inhabit the grounds of the school, along with teaching classes that focus on how to keep, care for, and heal many magical creatures. They also teach which creatures to avoid, how to react in a confrontation with dangerous creatures, and what measures to take should contact with a dangerous creature be made, such as how to lessen the effects of a venom until you can get help.

Charms

This is practical magic: how to levitate objects, unlock locked doors, light your way in the dark, and much more. The spells taught here may be simple, but they are the foundation to much more complex magic far down the line. Another important aspect of Charms is item enchantments. Magic music boxes that play when you’re sad? This class. Magic backpacks with more pockets than it seems like it should have? This class. This is your quintessential life lessons class, and those teaching it should be well versed in common sense, as well as how to use magic to make life easier.

Defense Against the Dark Arts

This class is about how to defend yourself from things that go bump in the night- the twisted, unholy forms of magic that bring nothing but pain and suffering. Curses, hexes, bad voodoo, down to even small things like a hex that makes you stub your hoof every day. Teachers are adept in combat magic, reversal spells, and protection spells. You will learn how to fight evil, as well as the right way to get rid of a boggart.

Due to previous circumstances, this position will be much more selective and applications more scrutinized

Herbology

Plants, It’s all about plants! Mushrooms, shrubbery, trees, roots, all sorts of plants. Teach how to plant greenery of all sorts, how to make them grow, how to harvest them the right way at the right time! Aquatic species, desert species, magic plants engineered by unicorns, it’s all about the green stuff. You got a green thumb? Well this class is for you. This class includes handling poisonous plants, medicinal plants, and can at times be dangerous so the professor needs to be watchful and attentive. Professors also have to tend to the greenhouses and ensure the health of the rare and magical species within.

History of Magic

Since the beginning of Equestria, unicorns have been experimenting and learning about their magic. Different cultures have expressed their magic in their own special ways, and the unicorns of today can still learn much about what the long gone generations first discovered. Professors for this class need a passion for time gone by, must be able to translate multiple languages, and be certified to handle ancient magical artifacts. This class is also connected closely to the runes class, and teachers of these two classes will most likely need to collaborate at times during the semester.

Potions

Double, double toil and trouble. Fire burn and cauldron bubble. Teachers of this potions class must be adept in alchemical past. Ingredients for a magical stew, teach your students how to brew. Poisons, antidotes, potions of love, the students just need a little shove. In the right direction now, are you up to the challenge of “how?”

Runes

The language of the mystic, symbols of the occult, and the study of all manners of magical sigils, Runes class provides a well rounded education on how to craft spells from writing alone. Due to the fact that runes can vary depending on culture, time, and exact purpose, the subject is often a complicated convoluted one that requires a professor with an incredible memory, and students with equally incredible patience. Due to the often historical nature of this class, it crosses over with History of Magic and the two professors may find themselves collaborating over the semester.

Transfiguration

The art of shifting the properties of a subject, Transfiguration is perhaps one of the most showy classes that Starswirl’s offers. Students learn to shift physical properties of objects, transform one thing to another, and to bend matter to their will. One must take care to practice safely in this class, however, as you can easily accidentally turn yourself purple or manage to sprout another set of hooves.
