Biography
Pocket was born and raised in Manehatten with his mother, father, and two older siblings. His father, Cliff, was an medical doctor and a geologist and one of the only professional doctors to be allowed working on the case of Yellow Stone fever, a life threatening disease. The illness originated from the South but started spreading towards the North East and is claimed to be from a type of rock called 'Yellow Stone', hence the name. Because of this phenomenon, he was mostly abroad, only staying in a few weeks at home.
His mother, Fondness, was a matchmaker, finding probable spouses for single mares and stallions with her so claimed "Gift" of being able to find one's other half, even though she finds everypony a 'perfect match', Pocket used to disagree with her job. He mostly believed that she shouldn't do a job where other ponies feelings are being played with by this hope of love, but she says that helps them get on their hooves and meet a destined partner. Despite knowing that she's right, he still didn't support her doings. Even though she tried to find a partner for him, even pointing a claimed "perfect candidate" off the street, he refused getting love advice from his mother. After his first year at Starswirls, to his mother's surprise Pocket stopped nagging about the job.
His older sister, Gemstone, was a lapidary, collecting gems and precious stones and turning them into decorative items to sell and to decorate her family's home. She was one who liked staying home and be by herself, never really spending time with other ponies besides her family. That was the case until she met Lu, a transgender stallion, a few years ago and they became engaged during the winter. Everypony was excited for her that she finally found a loves, until her fiancee died a couple months later from Yellow Stone fever, putting her in a depressed state, barley talking to anypony and appreciating her fathers job more than ever.
Pocket had an older brother as well, Demise. He ended up living up to his name when Pocket was in his teenage years.
Pocket did fairly well in school at a young age and did sports in his free time. He was very energetic and had been more adventurous when younger. Admittedly he wasn't the most athletic pony ever by any means, though he enjoyed every moment when playing. Unfortunately, Pocket caught pneumonia, one of the most deadliest diseases of the era. His parents got help from a wise traditional healer and since he only had the beginning stages of the illness, he was cured. Ever since then though, he became weaker in magic and had to practice other forms of magic. It wasn't until a year later of hard work that he finally could do magic he had already learned before the incident. Also, he started to study different forms of medicine to help his condition. While he didn't find anything about it, he did start to form a great interest for the medical field.
Even though all the symptoms were gone, he still had difficulty breathing, making him quit sports and became more dedicated to his studies. He also started to love studying about astronomy and the stars. He became less social as well, mostly having his muzzle in a book, practicing all his magical skills, and barely going out of his house besides going to school. It only got worse from there when his father died abroad from the same Yellow Stone fever he had been studying. His family knew the risks he was taking when he took the job to investigate the disease but still felt shocked by it all. Ever since then, the household had become slightly darker in atmosphere.
During high school he became more interested in pony history and science. Since he was coming of age to find a job, he looked for a apprenticeship in science. Later in the month he got hired to be an assistant to a scientist named Dr. Trottsit and work on experiments with his other apprentice, Rose. Despite the job being called "Assistant Inventor" on paper, in reality it was more of experiments consisting both magic and science, and making new things with both.
They were also a business that sold some products that were safer to handle to other companies, the more dangerous products locked away in their lab. Out of this job though, he learned many different potions he can make and new spells too. He also has a dream of becoming a therapist, to able to help other ponies with their mental problems. At the moment, he does see patients from time to time, although he does consider himself to be a "therapist in training" since he is still learning.
After a year working for Dr. Trottsit and Rose with the crazy and unusual experiments, the Doctor suggested him to a school he heard about in the papers: "StarSwirls School For Gifted Unicorns". Explaining how he always observed Pockets ability with magic and how he has potential for this school, and perhaps get Pocket to open up more to other ponies. Although Pocket was doubtful that he would get in, he managed to get on the student list.
Pocket's first year at the school was certainly interesting to say the least. There were amazing classes taught by magnificent teachers, though the most surprising thing to happen for him was he made a couple of friends. Saal, a stallion that almost reminds him too much of himself, and who has a complex past and an unhealthy life. Although he might have left abruptly, he considered Constelo, the astronomy teacher, a friend, or at least someone he looks up to and the one who only made Pocket love astronomy even more.
He even considers Nurse Collins as someone he cares for since she seemed to care for him and Saal. Ever since meeting Saal, Pocket had changed, as his family and friends realized when he returned home. Pocket seemed to be emotional and more open then he was before, more outgoing and wanting to be involved with the family.
Despite his family still weary of the sudden change, Pocket wanted to have another go at the adventures and knowledge in StarSwirls School. Learn more, help other student's and teachers alike, make friends, and perhaps be back in the Broom Closet House to finally show other ponies how great the house is.
Additional Information
- Pocket is intelligent when coming to his work, studies, and other ponies/creatures emotions. Although, he does tend to analyze other ponies quickly and read other ponies expressions. He can also be sarcastic or pushy when irritated or tired, though it is rare for it to happen. He can be very determined to finish or complete something that he is interested in, and also knows plenty of information for different circumstances.
Abilities
Basic Magic- They can use basic levitation spells on small objects as most unicorns can. He has some experience in glass and crystal magic, the beginnings of illusion magic, healing magic, assorted potions, and a few random spells.
Music- He's a skilled violinist, and usually plays to clear his mind or if friends request so.
Astronomy- He is knowledgeable in astronomy, the stars, and the universe. This is one of his favorite subjects.
The Sciences- While Pocket does work with magic most of the time, he also loves science as it's own form. He especially is interested in steam power and it's uses. Since he is a "therapist in training" he can sometimes read others emotions quickly or can understand their point of view through simple deduction. As a scientist, he does also like to think outside the box or come up with new solutions or plans to different situations. Has a lot of medical experience, with both magical and scientific healing practices. He would love to be in a medical field, but feels to pressured to ever accomplish that goal.
Introversion- He is a bit socially anxious, nervous to really start a conversation without feeling idiotic. He is trying to get over that hurdle through talking more with patients but is still a little introverted.
Short of Breath- Pocket can't run for a long period of time because of his breathing difficulties. This also applies to when he is learning new spells, it takes him longer than usual because of his lack of energy.
